Wooo presents! It was my mother’s and sister’s birthday today (they share it) and unfortunately one of my sister’s gifts that I ordered online didn’t arrive until this afternoon which means their birthday package will arrive late. But better late than never, cannot WAIT to hear their reactions. Running to the post office with these immediately tomorrow morning, so excited!

So I thought I’d give something up for lent. Since I’m not religious I am however just stealing the word lent and setting the time period myself.

I’m giving up excessive money-spending (i.e. unnecessary meals out, Starbucks, taxi trips, clothes + gadget-shopping) until I go home on March 16th.

This will hopefully mean I can actually survive for the summer term of Uni. Might just live off of Tesco noodles for a week as well. 11p/meal, it really is amazing.

I am so excited for spring to come. Not only for longer evenings and warmer weather (although, mind you, these are also very valid things to look forward to in the freezing cold we’re currently experiencing) but for all the things I already have planned.

After exams finish I will be off to Istanbul for a conference for young journalists about Islamophobia in Europe. Exams finish on January 23rd, and we fly down on the 25th. I’m so excited, hope we get to participate in the discussions a bit. Also cannot wait to experience Istanbul. I’ve never been there, but have heard so many nice things.

That’s the first weekend after exams - on the second weekend I’m off to Landaaan for a four day-trip for my best friend’s 21st! We’ve rented an apartment in Kensington for it - I am so excited. Still pondering on surprises for the bessie though, so any proposals of awesome things to do in London, let me know!

Then a few weeks of studying and exciting work on our magazine (http://libertybellesheffield.com) follows before Easter break when I’m doing work experience. Really looking forward to getting to experience a real newsroom, ah!

And after that I’m finishing off Easter break with meeting up my family in Lisbon for my stepdad’s 50th birthday. We haven’t had a family vacation together in ages (or well they have, but I’ve been home working all the time) so this will be a lot of fun. My mother and I - and the wine - always have a blast.

And then, come June, I’m becoming an aunt! My sister’s baby is expected to come on the 8th of June, so after summer exams I’ll be rushing home to Malmö to be the bestest aunt ever.

Now I only have to survive exam period. But seriously, if all of this can’t motivate me to do some work I don’t know what can.
